On March 9th at 2pm Pacific, Jesse Spohnholz will present as part of the American Historical Association’s “The Civic Value of World History” online event as part of Civic Learning Week (link opens in new window), moderated by Kenneth Pomeranz.

On March 2, Jennifer Binzewski (WSU PhD 2016) presented Gonzaga University’s “The Art and Craft of History” annual lecture for 2026. Her talk was titled “Widows Behaving ‘Badly’: The Underground Catholic Community in Tudor & Stuart England.”

Sue Peabody’s traveling exhibit, “The Surprising Story of Furcy Madeleine,” has just opened at Virginia Tech. See the attached photos and the story in the VT Daily News. She will do a zoom class with students there in March.

Nikolaus Overtoom is now under contract with OUP to act as an editor and contributor for the forthcoming Oxford Handbook of Ancient Parthia. This will be the first such study published on the Parthians and their world.

PhD student Blair Rogers contributed new material and is now the co-author, with Steven Teske, of “Cuban Refugee Crisis,” an article on the website of the Encyclopedia of Arkansas. He drew on his research into the lives of Cuban migrants detained at Fort Chafee to shed light on detainees’ religious life, sexuality, and musical culture.

PhD student Md Shamsuddoha’s review of Lauren Benton, They Called it Peace: Worlds of Imperial Violence (Princeton University Press, 2024) was recently published online in Postcolonial Studies.
