Ryan Booth will be giving a virtual lecture for the Sid Richardson Museum in Fort Worth, Texas, in conjunction with its exhibition Russell’s Retreat: Summers at Glacier National Park. Drawing on his experiences as a National Park Service ranger at North Cascades National Park and his work as a public historian, Ryan will explore how national parks have historically presented ideas of wilderness while often overlooking the enduring presence and histories of Indigenous peoples. His talk, The Way Through: Walking Between National Parks, Indigenous Presence, and the Stories We Tell, considers how tribal consultation, changing interpretive practices, and federal laws are helping the National Park Service tell more inclusive stories about these landscapes.
