Experiential Learning Beyond the Classroom Walls: On March 5th, Iván González-Soto’s HIST 105 class engaged in hands-on learning through a field trip and seed planting activity at the new Student Community Garden and Indigenous Traditional Ecological Knowledge Garden on the Vancouver campus. This month the class is exploring agricultural revolutions, industrial agriculture, and land-grant universities, and this experience allowed students to contrast global agricultural histories with small-scale, local food systems. The field trip was a collaborative effort between WSUV’s Native American Programs, the School of the Environment, and the Collective for Social and Environmental Justice and fostered a deeper understanding of agriculture practices within historical contexts.
