Andra Chastain gave several invited talks in Chile related to her book, Chile Underground. She spoke at the University of Chile, the Catholic University of Chile, and the University of Diego Portales, where she participated in a conference titled “Neoliberalism and the City,” about the effects of economic reforms on Santiago during Pinochet’s military regime (1973-1990). She also presented copies of her book to key figures whom she had interviewed for the book. Proud moment: a primary source documenting the role of Pablo Neruda (Nobel Prize-winning poet) in securing the Metro during Salvador Allende’s socialist government is part of a public exhibit on the history of the Metro system.
