\"SikangSikang Song earns CAS Doctorate Student Achievement Award in the Humanities<\/span><\/h3>\n

\n

Sikang Song was awarded the 2016 College of Arts and Sciences Doctorate Student Achievement Award in the Humanities<\/strong>. He is an all-but-degree PhD candidate working with former Asia Program director Dr. David Pietz. His research fields are Modern China, World History, and Global Environmental History. His research focuses on the ecological, social, and cultural constructions of tobacco growing and tobacco industry in North China during the early twentieth century.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n

\"JasonJason Hogstad earns CAS Master\u2019s Student Achievement Award<\/span><\/h3>\n

Jason Hogstad was awarded the 2016 College of Arts and Sciences Master\u2019s Student Achievement Award in the Humanities<\/strong>. Jason is an MA student who has finalized his thesis titled \u201cSplitting Hares: Eastern Oregon Pest Control and the Urban\/Rural Divide, 1900-1925.\u201d He has also worked as a history educator at the High Desert Museum and with the WSU Athletics Department as a tutor.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/section>\n

\"Brianna-Webb2\"<\/a>Brianna Webb, invited to present paper at World History Association Conference, Belgium<\/a><\/span><\/h3>\n

Graduate Student Brianna Webb will present her paper \u201cLayers of Memory: K\u00e4the Kollwtiz and Die Eltern<\/em>\u201d at the 25th<\/sup> annual World History Association conference in Ghent, Belgium. Her research examines the role of war memorials through a study of K\u00e4the Kollwitz\u2019s sculpture Die Eltern <\/em>(\u201cThe Grieving Parents\u201d), and challenges a popular perception that memorials suggest a single narrative.<\/p>\n

\"james<\/a>James Pappas invited to research at Air Command and Staff College,\u00a0Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama<\/a><\/span><\/h3>\n

Graduate student James Pappas has been invited to the Air Command and Staff College (ACSC) located at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Ala., to conduct archival research on the roots of the U.S. Air Force’s Air Corps Tactical School (ACTS).\u00a0James will travel to the ACSC in summer 2016.<\/p>\n

\"seanSean Gilleran awarded Bennett History Graduate Fellowship<\/a><\/span><\/h3>\n

Sean Gilleran, a history masters candidate, was awarded the Edward and Margery Bennett History Graduate Fellowship<\/strong>. He will use the funding to travel this summerto Washington, D.C., where he will explore the Seth MacFarlane Collection<\/a> of the Carl Sagan and Ann Druyan Archive at the Library of Congress.<\/p>\n
