He serves as an <a href=\"https:\/\/cas.wsu.edu\/2022\/04\/17\/fighting-for-uncle-sam-and-for-civil-rights\/\">on-camera expert<\/a> in the film, which seeks to understand the role the Buffalo Soldiers played in the settlement of the U.S. West and that complicated legacy. Portland Jobs with Justice (JwJ) sought to restore workers\u2019 rights and build working-class power through worker-community alliances. Together with the director, Pierre Lane, they discussed the making of the film, just released with English subtitles. Funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), <a href=\"https:\/\/news.wsu.edu\/news\/2020\/05\/14\/introducing-students-palouse\/\">Palouse Matters<\/a> helps introduce students to this region in northeastern Washington.\u00a0Faculty are developing a series of courses for students to dig deeply into Palouse history and culture. They hope the program will give students a greater understanding of the unique region while also helping them to grow strong roots\u2014building understanding of what it means to be an active citizen and to be part of a community wherever they live. The project is one of 224 education grants for curriculum innovation in the humanities awarded by NEH in 2020.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n<\/div>\r\n\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wsu-row wsu-row--single\" >\r\n    \n<div class=\"wsu-column\"  style=\"\">\r\n\t\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ray Sun<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"198\" height=\"198\" src=\"https:\/\/wpcdn.web.wsu.edu\/wp-cas\/uploads\/sites\/3205\/2022\/05\/fallen-cougar-sun-198x198.png\" alt=\"Fallen Cougars Exhibit\" class=\"wp-image-2656\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"198\" height=\"198\" src=\"https:\/\/wpcdn.web.wsu.edu\/wp-cas\/uploads\/sites\/3205\/2022\/05\/sun-198x198.png\" alt=\"Ray Sun\" class=\"wp-image-2657\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>The \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/static.libraries.wsu.edu\/fallencougars\/\">Fallen Cougars<\/a>\u201d exhibit, overseen by <strong>Ray Sun<\/strong>, opened in December 2021. The purpose of this project is to recover the lives and restore the humanity of WSC\u2019s war dead, honoring them in a way that will be accessible to all. Sun has been working with a team of student researchers, and the project is a collaborative effort supported by the WSU Center for Digital Scholarship and Curation (CDSC), the WSU Center for Arts and Humanities, the WSU Manuscripts, Archives, and Special Collections (MASC), and the Department of History.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\r\n\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wsu-row wsu-row--single\" >\r\n    \n<div class=\"wsu-column\"  style=\"\">\r\n\t\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Matt Sutton<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"198\" height=\"198\" src=\"https:\/\/wpcdn.web.wsu.edu\/wp-cas\/uploads\/sites\/3205\/2022\/05\/sutton-198x198.jpg\" alt=\"Matt Sutton\" class=\"wp-image-2703\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>Matt Sutton<\/strong> continues to focus on sharing his research with the general public. His virtual AHA talk last spring is now available on CSPAN as part of a Social Studies lesson plan focused on the most despised U.S. presidents:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He has also partnered with Humanities Washington and WSU\u2019s Foley Institute to offer a series of lectures to community groups around the state. These talks focus on the extraordinary story of the missionaries, priests, and rabbis who played an outsized role in leading the United States to victory in World War II. He has shared this story across Washington, in Seattle, Walla Walla, Spokane, Lacey, Clarkston, and Garfield.
