Kicza, Emeritus Professor of History<\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wpcdn.web.wsu.edu\/wp-cas\/uploads\/sites\/3205\/2015\/10\/john-kicza_88x106.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-646\" src=\"https:\/\/wpcdn.web.wsu.edu\/wp-cas\/uploads\/sites\/3205\/2015\/10\/john-kicza_88x106.jpg\" alt=\"john-kicza_88x106\" width=\"114\" height=\"137\" \/><\/a>John Edward Kicza, 68, retired professor of History and former administrator at WSU, died at his home in Pullman on Wednesday, March 9, 2016, with his wife, daughter, and son at his side.<\/p>\n<p>On faculty for 29 years, Kicza had served as associate dean for the College of Liberal Arts and as chair of the Department of History.<\/p>\n<p>He loved teaching and nurturing his students, and often would say, \u201cI can\u2019t believe they\u2019re paying me to do something I love so much.\u201d Active in many university concerns, he was widely regarded as a \u201cvoice of reason\u201d and as an effective mentor to students and colleagues.<span id=\"more-5458\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>During the past 19 years, Parkinson\u2019s disease progressively eroded his health. He retired from WSU in 2009.<\/p>\n<p>Memorial contributions in John Kicza\u2019s honor are suggested to the Northwest Parkinson\u2019s Foundation, online at <a class=\"tracked\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nwpf.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">www.nwpf.org<\/a> or via postal mail to the care of Kimball Funeral Home, PO Box 323 in Pullman.<\/p>\n<p>The family greeted friends during a visitation at Kimball Funeral Home in Pullman on Tuesday, March 15, and a Mass of Christian Burial was\u00a0celebrated by Father Jeff Core on Wednesday, March 16, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pullman.
