Jennifer ThigpenA roundtable discussion on Jennifer Thigpen’s Island Queens and Mission Wives: How Gender and Empire Remade Hawai‘i’s Pacific World  is now available   on H-Diplo.  The roundtable editor is Thomas Maddux and the discussion is introduced by Professor David Igler at the University of California-Irvine. Eastern Washington University Colloquium on Mexico

Drs. Yvonne Berliner and Julian Dodson will participate in EWU’s colloquium held during the week of February 9-11.  Dr. Berliner will present a paper on February 10 titled “Mexican Feminism in the Twentieth Century.”  Her paper traces the struggle for political rights for women in Mexico, culminating in 1953 with the right to vote.  Dr,Julian Dodson will participate in a Roundtable Discussion: Ayotzinapa in Context: Social Violence, Media Repression, Police Impunity, and Popular Resistance in Contemporary Mexico.

History Faculty Participate in EWU Colloquium on Mexico

yvonne-berliner_114x132Drs. Yvonne Berliner and Julian Dodson will participate in Eastern Washington University’s colloquium on Mexico February 10. Dr. Berliner is on Panel Discussion II and will present a paper entitled “Mexican Feminism in the Twentieth Century.”  Her paper traces the struggle for political rights for women in Mexico, culminating in the right to vote in 1953.

World History Association Annual Conference in Belgium, July 2 through 5, 2016

There will be several Washington State University faculty and students attending the World History Association (WHA) meeting in Ghent, Belgium in July.  A double panel of Roots of Contemporary Issues faculty, and a panel on “Women as Migrants: Conflict and Consequences” with president-elect Merry Wiesner-Hanks, past president Candice Goucher, Barbara Traver, Sue Peabody and instructor Aaron Whelchel and alumni Maryanne Rhett.  For more information, see the WHA conference URL. 

Shawna Herzog, 2013 PhD recipient and instructor, says “I’ve been on the conference planning committee since 2013 and this year I am assistant program organizer. I’ll also be delivering a paper on a panel chaired by Karen Phoenix about inter-imperial cooperation in colonial Southeast Asia.
